How We 'Du Adoptions
Our adoption process is more extensive than most rescues and adoption centers, and takes longer than walking in empty handed and leaving with an "out-of-the-box" kitten or cat. As many of our cats have been through some degree of trauma, a lot of our felines are of the "some-assembly-required" variety. What do we mean by that? The out-of-the-box cats are what you think of when you get a new cat or kitten – it may hide under the bed for a day or two, then be an instant perfect, fluffy, happy, taking over your house kind of family member. While we do get the occasional out of the box, ours typically will take more time to adjust, may be slightly more timid at first, some are terrified of dogs, others of little kids..... they take a little bit of [emotional] building before they take over the house!

Because of this, we put our focus on the needs of the cat over the wants of the human. Being a cage-free rescue, we spend ALL of our time with the cats. This gives us a great advantage in success rate, though! We know their quirks, their temperaments, things they hate, things they love; Onyx loves ice water out of metal cups! With you giving us your time, your history, your preferences, we can make the best informed recommendations possible.
All that being said, cats do pick their people! Often times we have pre-adopters coming in for one cat, and leaving with a completely different one, which is why we do require in person visits after a pre-screen or two, to ensure that there is that bond between a cat and their new family. We encourage all family members to attend, but we know that work and life schedules can get in the way. If there are small children and we have potential matches that have a sordid past with youngsters or loud noises, it's a great idea to bring your littles with you. Please make sure to arrange that in advance though, as we don't allow small children in without an appointment. The last thing we want is a little who loves kitties accidentally spooking someone and get scratched or scared of being hissed at; pre-arrangements make sure we are all as prepared as can be.

After everyone's hearts are set on who's coming home, we have a pesky little legal document to handle to make sure your cat is yours! Make sure to bring a carrier with you so there aren't any hold-ups; our furry friends are all excited to get a new family! We'll then send you all on your way with an info packet, all of our contact information, a starter pack of food, health records and microchip info for each cat, and the information to a vet we partner with that provides check-ups for all new adoptees within the first 14 days of adoption. We believe in full transparency, but like to give some extra, outside support as well. Our help doesn't stop when you leave our doors; we are always here, even years down the road for questions and support!
