Unlike some organizations that may adopt to anyone, we are dedicated to finding the best possible fit for both the cat and the adopter. This involves a thorough process where we ask potential adopters detailed questions and recommend cats that align with their lifestyle and preferences. By investing time upfront, we aim to create successful and lasting bonds between cats and their new families.

Inquiry and Application
Once you submit your adoption inquiry questionnaire, Catmandu will review it to determine if your home is a potential match for the cat’s needs, and what available cats are a potential match for your wants.

Review & Initial Discussion
After reviewing your application, a member of the Catmandu team may contact you to discuss your answers, ask follow-up questions, and clarify any details about your home, lifestyle, or experience. This helps ensure the cat’s needs align with what you can provide. Part of this initial discussion for everyone includes what your back up plan is should you become unable to care for your cat. Nothing personal, we promise! It is part of our commitment to our cats.

Meet & Greet
Our goal at Catmandu is to find forever homes for the cats in our care. We work very hard to make sure adopters and cats are well-matched and will theoretically be together for life. We are more interested in the quality of adoptions rather than the quantity. While some organizations will adopt to anyone that has a pulse, that's not who we are. We want both the cat and their adopter to be happy long-term. Taking the time upfront to ensure the new home and cat are a good match is key to a good outcome. Consequently, we ask potential adopters a lot of questions and ask everyone residing in the cats household meet the cat prior to adoption. And, yes, depending on the circumstances, this does sometimes mean a friend or family member you intend to take over cat care one day.

Final Decision & Adoption Agreement
Catmandu’s team will make a final decision based on the compatibility between the cats needs and the wants of your household. We ask that all parties residing in the house with the cat come visit.

Adoption & Transition Period
Once the adoption is finalized, you may be able to take your new cat home right away, or arrangements may be made for a specific transition time.

Post Adoption Follow Up
Catmandu will follow up with you after the adoption to ensure the cat is settling in well and to address any concerns you may have. The process is designed to ensure a careful match between the cat and the adopter, prioritizing the cat’s well-being over rushing through the adoption.
